Odds Review: Week Ending 23/01
Starting with one of the most interesting stories of the week, Lithuania's odds compared to last Sunday appear static yet this was a week in which some Gebrasy hype pushed the price as low as 16 before the Lithuanian public and juries responded to his ballad with a collective “nah”. Was never esc contender material (he’s Lithuania’s answer to Michael Rice imo) but to see him struggle so much is still a bit of a surprise.
Australia on the other hand will be sticking around for a while yet with the national final bar looking quite high. Whilst I also don’t see a genuine contender there yet, if the so far unheard entries are up to or above the current standard whoever comes through will have been thoroughly tested.
Portugal have an eclectic mix in Festival de Cancao with a couple of strong frontrunners seeing the available prices snapped up on Friday with little activity since. The market on Switzerland has dried up also, likely to settle a little lower than the previous ~40.
Ukraine's odds have also come in with any half decent entry lurking being enough at this stage of the year. If a perceived potential sympathy vote is contributing it would be quite unwise, with all bets standing run or not, in the unlikely event of political escalation. Russia's price is moving the other way in the past week.
Ireland are in the mud with their Nf lineup and qualification is the only realistic hope. Malta too look in a similar position.
It’s as you were pretty much for the rest of the pack with not too much of note going on.
Before our next update the North Macedonia entries are released and we'll likely get more from Ukraine. Spain's Benidorm fest final will also take place on Saturday.
