Odds Review: Week Ending 20/02

It feels ages ago now but the week began with the Vidbir fallout resulting in Alina Pash’s withdrawal from the running. I’d say Kalush Orchestra were going to replace her but there’s not been an official announcement yet. Ukraine sit back in the mid to high 20’s following the news and further uncertainty. France’s lineup has it’s fans whilst Seule continues to receive some talk but there doesn’t seem to be much of substance in the field with 40+ now available.

Following the weekend’s selections, Poland have moved out despite choosing their best option with Ochman’s rather dull live. Norway have shortened back in to mid 20’s after picking Subwoolfer whilst there’s been a bit of a renaissance for some earlier entries (Portugal, Spain, Netherlands most notably) as well as a move for a few of the silent countries (UK, and Switzerland- again). Part of this is down to the rest of supersaturday with Slovenia, Croatia, Malta and San Marino failing to pull anything really threatening out the bag.

Azerbaijan have drifted since announcing their act as Nadir Rustamli. I don’t think it’s anything personal, but this does look like Azerbaijan are being a little lazy again. Sweden backers have some cause for concern too with the possibility of Anders Bagge sneaking through now being factored into their price.

Australia have climbed back to 2nd in the odds with Sheldon Riley causing the hype this time rather than Charly or Voyager. The song is good enough to do the business, big question marks on the overall package and branding is all I’ll say for now. Still it’s one of only 3 so far to really give any winner vibes. They provide one of the two national finals to come in the next week with Finland also ready to choose their act.

And finally congratulations are due for Bulgaria becoming the first to reach that 1000+ mark where they will stay for the rest of the season. Neighbours Romania are not far behind which saying they haven’t even picked their poison yet is probably more impressive
