Croatia 2023: Let 3 with ‘Mama SC’

Croatia have decided to go big or go home this year embracing the rule change in an attempt to make a rare finals appearance.

If you squint hard enough you might be able to spot a layer of satire in here. It's very subtle so might take several watches to spot but this might just be a sendup of dictators. At least nothing is lost in translation.

It's certainly a marmite entry which in general is good for the switch to 100% televote in the semis. There is a clear reason to vote for this if you like it giving it an advantage over the likes of Ireland in the same section of the draw.

Novelty entries can be unpredictable however and it shouldn't be taken for granted that the public just lap up anything silly- go back across the years and the likes of Dustin The Turkey provide evidence of this.

The semi is tricky overall but the first half isn't as bad and this is less vulnerable to the running order. Finland (assuming Kaarija) is here but this does stand on it's own too- it either goes down well or it doesn't. That there are 5-6 strong (or expected to be strong) entries doesn't come into play here.

Should it qualify, Croatia are sure to receive about 95%+ of their points from the televote - whether that is 50 and a 2 or 200 and 10 so backing this outright or each way is a waste of time. Play it in the semi finals if you have to.

This could go down a storm but personally it feels complete overkill with no actual song to back it up. Large range with this and I'm on the low end for now (The high end being a 5-10 and no higher for the record). Killjoy I know. Are the novelty entries getting less amusing or myslef more miserable?
