Denmark 2023: Reiley with ‘Breaking My Heart’

One of many songs selected on Saturday was Denmark where favourite Reiley was able to hold on for victory.

Whilst I knew of his popularity before coming into his entry so there's potential for a bit of group think to have come into my opinion - I do like Reiley and can see the appeal.

Not being a 12 year old girl I could be way off in my assumptions but this should play very well into that kind of demographic. Of course this is actually backed up by the lad's TikTok following and coming through in Dmgp to begin with. This popularity isn't based across Europe but there's more crossover than ever in musical tastes and markets - it's simplistic but logical to assume this will play well to his key demographic in a wider audience

The song is a good example of something built around TikTok and passive airplay too - obscure comparison but it would also fit perfectly on a Pro Evolution Soccer circa 2014 playlist. It's another song with AI written vibes but this time around music industry trends rather than a Eurovision results focus.

As wiwibloggs would put it - the staging needs to be "on point" here and personally I'd be going down the prop route of a giant heart or something to try and add a visual hook for this - If DR only give Reiley some Dancers and a little pyro I'd be disappointed. The vocal effects and how that is handled will also be something to look out for. It's hard to trust them entirely but this year has been an improvement in the minimal effort of previous years.

We do have to start with the qualification question first. Semi 2 is still looking weak but Denmark find themselves in the first half and with only Iceland as a guaranteed ally. I'd have to start with this as borderline for now. If it does manage to qualify that's a sign of it's strength and them doing something right. Mid table would be within reach as juries should also come on board to an extent even if world class vocals are not on the cards. I wouldn't discount the top 10 in the event DR play this perfectly.
