Iceland 2023: Dilja with ‘Power’

Songvakepnin has come and gone with little fanfare leaving Dilja Iceland's representative this year:

Spoiler warning for the next couple of reviews too but we're getting into more uncertain territory with these last entries to be released. That's particularly the case when discussing countries with not much voting power (pun intended) such as Iceland.

I do go in for this type of music and I like Dilja, she's a good singer and charismatic but the live transition is awkward for this genre and if Iceland were to show up with their national final staging they ain't qualifying.

The Czech Republic last year potentially holds an example of bringing that big arena feel without getting lost on stage. I do hope and expect RUV to support her and bring a concept of some sort-but when little obvious comes to mind beyond lighting, camerawork and pyro I do get a little concerned.

When balancing out this is one of the better songs and singers in the semi but from one of the weaker countries, with a first half draw (potential show opener) and a question mark over staging and a bit of a re-edit I think I go borderline for now but there is potential to get through comfortably should everything come together. If in the final it probably gets a similar result to the Czech Republic from last year again with moderate jury support but a lagging televote.

Personal Rating: 8/10

Competitve Rating: 6/10

Early Prediction: Semi Two 8th-12th, 18th-22nd if in the final.
