Croatia 2021- Albina with ‘Tick Tock’

As mentioned in last weeks odds review following the snippet release, Dora is never an easy national final to predict, however one of the flagged entries has come through with Albina winning through comfortably with ‘Tick Tock’:

We’re still in the early days of this site and ‘Tick Tock’ presents the first review where its difficult to find much to say about the song itself, either really positive or quite negative; it's just a decent all round entry. Albina is a good, likeable singer, the song is good and there’s some staging potential, but there’s nothing really exceptional here in what could be an above average semi. On the issue of staging, I don’t think Dora can tell us much. A lot more thought and refinement can go into making this work visually and maybe a few themes will be carried over but this will only improve.

Going back to the competition this faces and there’s a bit of a producer’s nightmare in semi 1 at the moment with a possible all female lead vocal (waiting on Norway) in the second half. In fact, The Roop and Vasil are the only confirmed male vocals in the entire semi at this point, meaning this is fishing in very congested waters.

For ‘Tick Tock’ to make the final, you feel a few countries, such as Azerbaijan and Cyprus in particular, are going to have to disappoint in their offerings . On the flip side, this is another nail in the coffin of Israel’s hopes.

Out of the possible Balkans it’s nice to have Slovenia here, but on the whole Croatia don’t really have more or less friends in the semi than anyone else. If Croatia do go through, they will do so consistently picking up 3-4 points from both the juries and the public with few higher scores.

Personal Rating: 7/10 Competitive Rating: 6/10 Early Prediction: 9th-13th Semi One, 17th-21st in the final if it qualifies.
