Latvia 2022: Citi Zeni with ‘Eat Your Salad’

Latvia have selected their act for Turin with Citi Zeni overcoming 2015 representative Aminata in the final of Supernova:

I'll use my opening line here to say they obviously won't be able to use theirs which straight off the bat takes away one of the biggest talking points. Anyway this isn't as outright bad as I remember from previous viewings. It's still a mile away from anything I'd choose to listen to but tolerable for what it is.

Without the initial shock factor and with the actual half jokey/ half preachy lyrics I don't see it storming the novelty vote but there could be an audience for it, enough to mean that this can't be 100% ruled out from qualifying. Public reception to novelty is hard to judge and although not a million miles away from Jendrik last year, I think this should get a bit of traction. Juries are almost guaranteed to dislike this but if executed well, they may not completely kill it’s chances dead.

‘Lame Sax Guy’ needs to up his game and it might be best to strip him of his spotlight moment altogether to avoid comparisons but this isn't too hard to stage and the guys just about get the balance right between being plain irritating and having some charisma.

It's a mixed bag of a semi for support but one other issue they have is Moldova in the same half which complicates things for the both of them. Should Latvia scrape through they’d avoid the bottom spots but not by much.
