San Remo 2022- Finals Night Preview

The Marathon that started on Tuesday comes to it's close tonight and shortly after we should find our representative's for home soil in Turin.

It's best to keep things brief here as we have an overwhelming favourite tonight and a long enough evening ahead and I can't present much of a case for the underdogs. Mahmood & Blanco came into this as favourites from the moment the lineup was released -also tipped here ;) - and have only strengthened their case. I'll save much on what I have to say about the actual song for the review which I'll very likely have to do- I don't see them losing this from here. The public vote is more probable to carry the bigger swings and that is an area they are dominating going of every single statistic available. Their overall lead coming into this with press and the demoscopic jury is impressive and unlikely to be overturned at the last minute. I also don't see them declining the ticket, it's a small concern of course but they are on record as having a plan for the eventuality the win. Mahmood knows what esc can do for his career, Blanco will want a piece of that pie and the fact it would be on home soil is an added pressure, incentive and ease.

Elisa is the pick for second place. Coming into this I had it one of her or Emma in the top 3 and went the wrong way. Anyway, Elisa is stronger than the material here and ‘O Force Sei Tu’ doesn't really have much impetus to it. Her stats have her in the busy second grouping behind M/B and she may be able to outperform them slightly assusimg she skews a little older. Press and demographic juries should be keen.

3rd is harder. The “obvious” pick is Gianni Morandi who has really snook up over the course of the week. His support could pick up or fade away now he's a frontrunner, hard to call which. I'm not convinced he sustains this run and perhaps now at the business end, Italy become a little more serious, which is to take nothing away from his performances which have been great. I'll just sneak him in instead of Irama, Sangiovanni and La Rappresentante Di Lista. Out of those I think Irama is the most well rounded across press/demos/tv so could push Morandi the hardest.

I don't think it's been the best year in all honesty, at least from a personal view point, last year contributed much more to my playlists, only a couple this year have been able to. Anyway enjoy the show and for clarity:

  1. Mahmood & Blanco

  2. Elisa

  3. Gianni Morandi
