Odds Review: Week Ending 15/01

We’re now into the season proper with plenty to report on so I shan’t waste time trying to think of a clever intro and instead jump on in…

Belgium is the only proper place to start with them tumbling a monumental 23 spots in the ranking after selecting Gustaph. They haven’t missed out on the chance to win by any means but a qualification and crack at a top 10 spot was on the table. Instead, well, the odds speak for themselves.

La Zarra is our 2nd act to join the Eurovision party this week after being internally selected by France. After initially being pushed into the teens France have bounced halfway back into the low 20s. My opinion- reasonable at this stage and although I anticipate a good entry I’m not sure it will be winning standard.

Estonia saw the ‘old price crash in anticipation of a price crash’ type of move coming down to 30 before Alika took to the stage with ‘Bridges’. Now stabilised in the 30s I’ll give my opinion of it being ‘good not great’ and not a challenger in my view. There are far better versions of this…

Norway have been on The Starling’s rollercoaster the last week. Backed back down following the release of Ulrikke’s song in full last week only to drift halfway out again following the live performance. It’s all a little unnecessary- Ulrikke is not winning Eurovision with ‘Honestly’.

Over in Moldova the sunstroke project are practically confirmed as returning once again with backers assumedly not bothering to listen to ‘Yummy Mommy’.

Croatia have also ruled themselves out of the win aka released their Dora entries whilst Serbia’s lineup is also confirmed and hasn’t helped their case in the odds either.

Finally, Ukraine have seen a drift out over the last week. Whilst this is usual for any early fav and still overly generous to their winning chance in my opinion, the field could be looking a lot worse for them by now and they remain by far the best selected entry of the 3.

Next week sees Denmark and Portugal show their hands in DMGP and Festival da Cancao. MGP continues next Saturday as Pabandom is Naujo begins in Lithuania.
