Malta 2023: The Busker with ‘Dance (Our Own Party)’

We're finally almost through the backlog created by super Saturday as we tackle Malta's MESC winning entry:

This had come across the escbetting radar through fan discussion and when originally checking up I was pretty disappointed. In live form it's better but there's nothing to write home about here. The sax beat is catchy and enjoyable whilst it's on but this really lacks memorability and purpose.

There is staging potential and they seem on the right lines to make this into a crowd pleaser but how much TVM throw at this is questionable. Assistance is needed.

Same set of circumstances as our last two reviews apply so I'll fly through them; tough semi, first half and no reliable support. Qualification is very much odds against for now. The potential for Sunstroke Project coming through in Moldova with their superior staging history and later draw in the same semi would be a big concern too.

Should this sneak through its unlikely many juries will pick this out in a 26 song final even if there is a little hint of ‘A Friend of a Friend’ in places.

It’s another tough year for Malta.

Personal Rating: 5/10

Competitve Rating: 4/10

Early Prediction: Semi One 10th-14th, 22nd-26th if in the final.
