Croatia 2025: Marko Bosnjak with ‘Poison Cake’
One of the bigger upsets this year came last Sunday with Poison Cake Croatia's successor to last year's televote winner:
Dora was an odd watch and personally this was theeast enjoyable entry of the evening. I thought I was perhaps in the minority not seeing the artistry or something as the juries began to corronate this but no, fourth in the Dora televote and the general reaction suggests it was the jurors out of line.
Whether this is some great jury song or not (it isn't) is a moot point as this is unlikely to make it through the semi final and is perhaps the main candidate for last place there
There are a great deal of entries this year trying to throw mix up structure and just throw as much as into the composition, hoping something sticks and this is where that approach is the least successful.
There are some positives and that is the self awareness from Marko and the team that this was a bit of a surprise winner, are aware of the reaction, and are looking to work on this. There is not a lot (if any) time to get the substantial changes in however.
There's also room for some staging creativity with the songs structure and lyrics and that's the main saving grace. The national final performance was not it. The semi draw is a bit of a help being in the second half and Slovenia are a good ally to have. There's also a very loose case that this could also get Bosnian votes on top of what Croatia typically start with (not much).
