Slovenia 2025: Klemen Slakonja with 'How Much Time Do We Have Left'

The fandom have lost a couple of slaying queens already this season but Slovenia really brought the popcorn out in selecting the popular Klemen over July Jones.

Klemen's participation in EMA this year got the market a little excited over Slovenia with the man having a proven track record of being able to produce a strong, fun, televote friendly entry. Unfortunately, he was true to his word that he was instead bringing an emotional, personal ballad. I appreciate that choice, but this is also a bit of a missed opportunity for Slovenia.

Nethertheless, this isn't as bad a song as the online reaction has it. There is a strong hook and whilst the lyrics are simple and on the nose, that’s a benefit in getting the message across, particularly to an older demographic who will be more into this. Even not in that group, I actually quite like although the bridge feels poorly constructed. This is obviously nowhere near as good as Greece which was reviewed yesterday for comparison but is more effective at getting a neutral's vote in my opinion, which is more of the game.

Positive comparisons would be Poland 2016 and Croatia 2017 depending on how wacky the staging ends up being and it feels closer to those than an Omar Naber (Slovenia 2017). Slovenia are still up against it to qualify and the draw is not particularly kind, with the exception of having Croatia voting here. Semi 1 has a few countries that look locks to qualify (Sweden, Ukraine, Belgium) but also a few vulnerable ones (Iceland, Norway and traditionally San Marino and Azerbaijan). This feels very much on the edge.

If Slovenia do find themselves in the final, I’m pretty sure juries will not appreciate this much at all. The televote could be anything from 20-120 points possibly so making it out of the bottom 5 might be the ultimate ambition. Probably going to be one of the 40-1+ dogs for a top 10 which might tempt for a small investment if everything went well.
