Spain 2021- Blas Canto with ‘Voy a Querdame’

Spain's two song selection to decide Blas’ entry has finally concluded, with ‘Voy a Querdame’ the winner:

Did Spain make the right choice here? Probably, but we're talking a few points here or there. Spain have completely fallen apart at Eurovision and whilst it's not surprising every year to find an uncompetitive entry, their run of form is ridiculous. Spain was once a yo-yo country, doing ok/well one year to very badly the next. Since 2015 they’ve managed to cut out that inconsistency, but unfortunately for Spainsh fans, they’re now just consistently bad.

21st, 22nd, 26th, 23rd, 22nd is the form through to 2019 and believe me, ‘Universo’ would have also been in that range.

In fairness, 2017’s ‘Do It For Your Lover’ apart, there haven't been many complete disasters, just entries that are uncompetitive, staged badly and out of their depth on the night of the final.

That's again the case, neither song in the running, nor last year's entry, nor Blas himself are ‘bad’ there's just no one who will vote for this or any reason for a high enough jury ranking to get points that way.

Staging has been a big issue for RTVE so it's not as if we can point to that as somewhere this can improve. In truth, it's probably where this could fall further behind. This is more of an accidental last place than a deserving one, and for now I feel its more likely they get a 24th/25th to add to their collection of recent poor finishes rather than come stone dead last. Escaping the bottom 5 though? no chance.

Personal Rating: 3/10 Competitive Rating: 3/10. Early Prediction: 22nd- 26th
