Armenia 2025: Parg with ‘Survivor’

Depi Evratesil has been on hiatus since 2020 but returned last Sunday, crowning Parg as Armenia's Eurovision entrant this year:

Armenia are one of those who probably shouldn't be using a national final if their aim is to maximise their result and instead put all their resources into internally selecting something strong as there isn't really the depth in quality amongst willing participants. I like to support the country and they are often one of my favourites but this was a poor watch where the Malena -Aram Mp3 - Brunette interval showed everyone up.

Anyway, Parg was I believe the biggest domestic name here and he won thanks to televoting overturning a small jury deficit. Since Prayer turned into one of the biggest car crashes ever witnessed, it was a pretty marginal decision between Simon, Athena and our eventual winner.

I'd place money on Survivor having been offered to Minus One and Hovig (Cyprus '16 and '17) and countless Melodifestivalen entrants over the years. Parg and his team have then purchased this and swapped in a very out of place ethnic bridge. Prove me wrong. This is a very non descript song despite that and going loud which looks set to suffer from the "no-ones favourite" issue. Everything here is a solid 6/7 out of 10 but throughly uninteresting.

Whilst Armenia has a diaspora, I do think it's one of the more overplayed and doesn't stack up to others, they aren't a country with a certain 10/12 no matter what. Greece, France, Georgia - these are countries that will probably give 5-7pts to an entry of this standard. That may be enough to raise this into the qualification places in Semi 2, something I was initially more sceptical on but in looking over the list of songs there this looks a bit safer. Lithuania's presence there with an actual rock song is not ideal and this does look very inauthentic by comparison. Overall more in than out. Totally lost in the final with minimal jury appeal unless we get a really original and effective staging concept. Unlikely to escape bottom 5.
